HTC heeft aangekondigd om samen te werken met Charlie Lee, medeoprichter van Litecoin, aan de HTC Exodus.

De HTC Exodus wordt de allereerste blockchain telefoon ter wereld, aldus HTC. HTC legt uit dat elk Exodus toestel als een node zal functioneren, wat ervoor zorgt dat de gebruiker zijn of haar identiteit en data lokaal op het toestel kan beheren in plaats van in een gecentraliseerde cloud. Tevens zal elk toestel zijn eigen ‘cold storage wallet’ voor cryptocurrencies bevatten.

De HTC Exodus zou later dit jaar, in het derde kwartaal, uit moeten komen. Verdere specificaties zijn nog onbekend.
Phil Chen, directeur van de crypto afdeling bij HTC, had eerder aangegeven dat de HTC Exodus de cryptocurrencies Bitcoin en Ethereum zou ondersteunen. Nu is daar Litecoin (alsmede het Lightning Network) aan toegevoegd en Charlie Lee zal daarbij als adviseur optreden. Litecoin staat momenteel op de zevende plek van de meest waardevolle cryptocurrency op de markt.

In april heeft het Israëlische tech-bedrijf Sirin Labs ook aangegeven een blockchain telefoon te gaan bouwen. Het bedrijf zal samenwerken met Foxconn en zal het toestel ‘Finney’ noemen. Dit toestel zal tevens gebruikers de mogelijkheid bieden om cryptocurrencies te kopen en te bewaren. De Finney komt later dit jaar in oktober uit.
